Maths Curriculum Intent

At Smith’s Wood Primary, the emphasis of maths can be seen across the school and interconnected through subjects, allowing for fluent understanding of mathematical ideas across the curriculum. Our curriculum aims to inspire a love for maths and all of its applications, providing pupils with the opportunity to be investigative, problem-solving mathematicians. Pupils will develop not only their understanding of mathematical language and methods, but also be able to reason mathematically, through following lines of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and developing discussion.

Our Maths curriculum provides children with exciting and thought-provoking opportunities to develop their skills, from fundamental understandings of number to practical problem solvers. Children learn to break down problems using the foundations of their mathematical knowledge, persevering to investigate and seek solutions. The skills they acquire are applied within their topics and help to secure understanding across the curriculum and enhance their readiness to progress in all subjects.
