Art Curriculum Intent

At Smith’s Wood Primary, we place a great emphasis on the importance of Art. Our curriculum will inspire and challenge all pupils; enabling them to become experimental, inventive and creative. Pupils will be critical thinkers – developing a more rigorous understanding of Art. Pupils are taught a skills-based curriculum, with individuality and creativeness flowing through everything they do.

Our Art curriculum provides children with exciting and engaging opportunities to develop their skills using a range of mediums - becoming artists themselves. Children learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and sculpture. Children will be introduced to a range of relevant works and develop knowledge of the styles and vocabulary used by famous artists. The skills they acquire are applied within their topics and help to enhance their learning in all subjects.
