Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

This week, the Year 5 children took part in a Bikeability course. Bikeability is a national cycle training programme supported and funded by the Department for Transport. The course builds the skills and confidence of the children who can already ride, receiving training from qualified and professional instructors. The first day involved an assessment day of riding around the school playground, correcting any bike problems and adjusting the children ready for the road. The following days involved a start and finish an on-road journeys, recognising typical hazards and the rules to follow when riding by/on the road.

We got together for a week of fun and fundraising and took part in fundraising activities, such as a non-uniform day, merchandise sales and sponsored team challenges!
We raised a phenomenal £1205.44!
A huge thank you for all of your help which will make a huge difference to many children's lives!

Four lucky pupils from each house, in year 6, had the chance to win the 100 house point jackpot last night, but could they defeat The Cube? Pupils had to demonstrate skill, nerve and determination by braving The Cube. All children completed a series of deceptively simple tasks while confined to The Cube and in the glare of the spotlight the ultimate Smith's Wood Primary Academy test created unbelievable drama as The Hulk house stole the show as runaway leaders of the entire event. Congratulations to all pupils who demonstrated immense personal skills as well as a clear application of our school values in what was a thoroughly competitive and entertaining evening.

Last night saw the return to competitive action for Smith's Wood Y6 pupils in the North Solihull Indoor Rowing Championship. A long-standing tradition was upheld as the Smith's Wood girls team put in a dominant display of athleticism and perseverance to secure a well-deserved first place victory. When the going got tough, Smith's Wood kept on rowing! After some last minute changes to the boys lineup, determination shone through and personal bests were shattered as they narrowly missed out on a podium finish securing a hard-fought 4th place.
All pupils showed an abundance of school values and stunning sportsmanship throughout the emotionally charged competition.
We are immensely proud of both teams for their commitment to practice (through many a cold morning on the rowing machines) and their outstanding accomplishments.
