  • Lockdown Learning Week 7

    It has been an unbelievable week here at Smith’s Wood with continued high quality provision for both our learners in school and at home.

    Year 6 celebrated the start of their new topic ‘Amazing Americas’ by putting a new spin on an American classic delicacy, the Hot Dog. Each student designed their own hot dog, with some wonderful combinations created, a tasty start to their new topic.

    Focusing on Geography this week, Year 5 have researched and created a fact board all about their chosen country Brazil.

    Linking to their new topic ‘Vicious Vikings’, Year 4 have explored the Nordic country Iceland. During their lessons they have experienced the Northern Lights and created a home for Trolls and Elves which are believed to still inhabit the countryside in Iceland.

    Representatives of the anti-bullying campaign ‘Wellbeing Warriors’ met remotely this week for some online training in their new roles.

    Year 1’s topic ‘Festivals Around the World’ got off to a colourful start this week, with pupils creating their own festival style masks.

  • Lockdown Learning Week 6

    As the half term comes to a close, the fun and excitement does not stop at Smith’s Wood.

    Year 1 celebrated their Super Space Day with some amazing home-made costumes linked to their topic.

    Year 2 found inspiration through their topic ‘A Whole New World’ recreating their own Mary Poppins chalk street art

    Following their Birmingham lessons, Year 5 have had the opportunity to create some reusable bags both in school and at home!

    Mrs Perks conducted her first virtual choir session this week, with lots of children across multiple year group joining in.

    As always, we have some amazing remote learning content on our website put together by our fantastic staff for you to enjoy at home, more content will be coming after the half term!

    It has been wonderful to see so many children engaging both in school and with remote learning at home. A big thank you to all parents, carers, pupils and staff for making this half term one to remember. Stay safe and enjoy the half term break, hope to see you all in school soon.

  • E-Safety Week at Smith's Wood

    Smith's Wood have observed Internet Safety Week this week. Pupils around the school and at home have been involved in a range of different E-safety activities. Years 1 and 4 created posters helping to showcase how we can all stay safe online.  Years 3 and 6 created 'How to' guides specifically for using Zoom at home. Year 5 collected data and created graphs about apps and games used by pupils within their year group. Children in Year 2 linked this to their topic 'A Whole New World' and channelled their inner Mary Poppins to teach children how to be safe online.

  • Lockdown Learning Week 5

    Here at Smith’s Wood we are continuing to deliver outstanding provision and highly engaging lessons both in school and remotely.

    Down in reception, pupils have enjoyed coming to school dressed as their favourite fairy-tale characters to link to their topic.

    Mr Meers continues to deliver high a quality football skills club for those children in school. This week year 1 have had a fantastic time developing their skills.

    Year 2 donned their best chef outfits to create a delicious Ratatouille treat. Pupils enjoyed seeing the tasty link to their topic ‘A Whole New Year’.

    Year 4, celebrating a whopping 98% engagement level this week, visited the 4D room to draw, using their new-found shading skills, the Taj Mahal.
