  • Purple Puffins Poetry Phenomenon!

    Published 28/02/23

Yesterday, 8 of our year 6 children had the opportunity to visit The Core, in Solihull, to listen and meet Joseph Coelho (the current Waterstones Poet Laureate). Whilst there, Joseph Coelho performed some of his famous poems to the group, and they were allowed to ask questions about his poems and the books he has published. At the end of the talk, they were also lucky enough to have their own poetry books autographed. What a brilliant experience for all involved!

  • Pupil of the Week

    Published 17/02/23

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

Our weekly winners this week are:

    Georgie-Rose - 1RW

  • The Happiest Place on Earth

    Published 15/02/23

On Tuesday 14th February, Year 2 pupils participated in an exciting Disney Day! We were bowled over by the range of creative costumes pupils came to school in, this all added to the excitement and buzz surrounding the day. During the day, pupils experienced what a day at Disney might look like, including a trip to the 4D room to plan a parade. Pupils had the opportunity to design and make their own Mickey Mouse ears. There were some superb designs showing a clear understanding of the design brief and product purpose. Throughout the day, all pupils demonstrated friendship and determination. Look out for the QR code next our display board when you are in for Parent’s Evening!

  • Number Day!

    Published 03/02/23

WOW! What a wonder buzz around the school today.  Smith's Wood celebrated our very own number day, taking maths to whole new level!

Across the school, there were many different activities, sharing and discussing maths.

History of mathematicians in guided reading lessons, helping children to understand where numbers came from

    Shape poetry

Children writing their own stories, all about magic numbers

Measuring in Nursery when making biscuits, which were delicious!

Music and creating their own timetables song

    The list goes on.

It is days like this and comments from the children that make us more than a school!
