Smith's Wood Primary Academy honours Remembrance Day with Solemn Ceremony In a touching tribute today, students at Smith's Wood Primary Academy gathered to commemorate Remembrance Day, expressing gratitude for the sacrifices of veterans.

Led by dedicated teachers and staff, the ceremony began with a moment of silence, creating a respectful atmosphere for reflection.

In a moving gesture, the Last Post echoed through the school grounds, marking a moment of profound contemplation.

Members of the school's SWAG group, proudly donning their school spirit, took centre stage as they laid poppies at the flagpole, where the Union Jack waved proudly. This symbolic act emphasised the unity and gratitude felt by the Smith's Wood Primary Academy community.

What an incredible trip Year 3 had!! All Things Wild truly surpassed our wildest expectations! First, we played in the park before going to the adventure centre. Everyone had the opportunity to hold an animal such as an armadillo, a snake or a gecko.   

The Dino train was our next stop. This took us on a magical dinosaur trail, where we spotted lots of the dinosaurs we are going to be learning about in our current topic. There were terrifying Triceratops, T –Rex’s, a stunning Stegosaurus and a couple of vicious Velociraptors. Our final fun activity was a fossil dig, where we became real palaeontologists.  Extreme fun was definitely had by all.

Yesterday was National Outdoor Classroom Day and in true Smith's Wood style, we celebrated it with an engaging theme day. The children participated in lessons that took place outdoors and had an Autumnal theme. There was everything from leafy collages to s'mores cooking on an open fire!

It is now!

Smiths Wood's own band of brothers put everything on the line in their inaugural appearance in the EFL Trophy. Kindly hosted by Birmingham City Football Club, Smiths Wood's most elite footballers excelled in their professional surroundings. Numerous challengers were put to the sword as the goals flowed with no goals conceded! Due to our impenetrable defence, Smith's Wood topped the group with a 100 % record. Sterner tests were faced in the knockout stages of the competition, but Smith's Wood held strong to progress to the final. In a fierce and often ferocious battle, Smith's Wood defences were tested to the absolute limit. Yet again, they held firm as our heroes emerged with the narrowest and most satisfying of victories. Smith's Wood are proud to announce we will be representing Birmingham City Foundation at the regional stage later in the academic year. Thank you to the players who all contributed valiantly to our success. We are immensely proud of them.

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts. 
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.
