Year 2 had a great pirate theme day last week. We enjoyed measuring the capacity of pirate punch and wrote our very own message in a bottle. In the afternoon, we carried out lots of pirate jobs, made hardtack biscuits and then completed a tricky treasure hunt. What a fantastic day!

We have had a fantastic variety of fun filled lessons and activities on friday to help us explore the history of different countries around the world! From designing a pattern for Tutankhamun's tomb in Maths, making gelato in Literacy; to rebuilding the Eiffel Tower in Topic - we had an incredible day, dressed in lots of our countries colours as well as landmarks! Not only have we found out about the history of our countries, but some of the language too - go on test us!!!

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

On Thursday 2nd May, Year 4 pupils had the fantastic opportunity to visit Cadbury World as part of our Ancient Aztec topic. They experienced a 4D ride along with learning about the history of chocolate as well as the history of Cadbury. As well as this, children had a design and technology talk where they learnt how chocolate is marketed and packaged compared to other competitors ,as well as the history of how advertising has developed over time. Following this, children explored how to manipulate chocolate including having their own taste test!

They came, they saw, they conquered! Yesterday afternoon, Smith's Woods' amazing athletes stormed the imperious walls of The Coleshill School sports centre hoping for a shot at the converted gold medals from the prestigious North Solihull Panathlon competition.
Every player competed to the abosulte best of their ability, showing superhuman teamwork and determination as well as a herculean level of friendship and respect.
Competition was fierce, nerves were jangling, palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy but our wondrous athletes rose to the challenge, competing in event after event.
A calm and collected approach saw our participants through to the end of the competition, managing to score an amazing gold place victory over all other schools competing and ensuring them a slot in the national championships!
We are so proud of the entire team and their amazing achievement. Well done to everyone who competed!
