We wish them well on the next stage of their journey and look forwards to hearing of their successes in the years to come!

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

Yesterday, our Year 1's visited Tamworth Castle. We had an amazing fun-filled day, where we got to walk around and experience a real-life castle, meet the Lord and Lady and prepare a feast for them, find the knight's armour, tour the entire surroundings and meet our very new friend - Knight, who even shared lunch with us! The children were an absolute credit to the school and showed impeccable behaviour throughout the day, as well as share knowledge they have learnt over the last half-term; complemented by members of the public and staff. We made lots of lovely memories to end the year on - what a fabulous day!

Year 2 had an exciting trip to Weston Super Mare as part of our Seaside topic. Pupils had the opportunity to enjoy a traditional day at the seaside including building sandcastles, playing football and enjoying a picnic on the beach. A few cheeky seagulls and drops of rain couldn't spoil our fun! All pupils displayed outstanding behaviour and demonstrated our school value of responsibility; taking care to ensure that we left our beach area clean and tidy. As staff, we felt incredibly proud to take them on this trip. We hope Year 2 made wonderful memories with their friends.

We are delighted to inform you we have now received external verification that we have been awarded the Platinum School Games Award for 2023. Platinum is the highest accolade that can be achieved within the School Games framework. Following, an exhaustive journey through many applications to achieve customary gold awards for the past 5 years, we are overjoyed to be recipients of the Platinum award in our first application window. This award embodies the great school sport and physical activity offer we promote to all pupils here at Smith’s Wood Primary Academy. This latest award also encapsulates the success in unifying the association for physical education distinction award, Character Education Kitemark plus and most recently our Outstanding Ofsted judgement.

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their time at Conkers! It was pleasing to see children challenging themselves and stepping out of their comfort zones to complete the high ropes challenge and obstacle course. Although there were a few squeals of disgust on the barefoot walk, most children completed it twice! Our school vales of friendship and determination were shown in full force, with everyone working together and showing encouragement when it was needed.

Last week, on a glorious Thursday afternoon the sun was shining, spirits were high and competition was fierce. Smith's Wood's own superheroes bounced, ran, pulled, threw, and balanced to the very best of their ability to compete in our prestigious sports day. A fantastic time was had by all with many children taking home well-deserved first place stickers!

Solihull Council are hosting ‘Bikeability Level 2’ sessions this summer for children
in Year 5 and above. These sessions will take place over 3 consecutive
days and children must attend all sessions to complete the course.
Most children in Solihull schools will be offered this training in Year 5. This
summer course is aimed at providing training for children who have missed
their school session or have not been offered at their school.
