  • Pupil of the Week

    Published 15/05/23

Each week, during our Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

A special mention goes to year 6 this week with every pupil being nominated for pupil of the week! When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Year 6 have proven these past few weeks that they are made of steel! A bigger uptake in boot camps than ever, huge focus in interventions and a set of tests executed perfectly! We are so proud of you all #More than a Year Group!

    Published 05/05/23

We have had a fantastic variety of fun filled lessons and activities today to help us celebrate our King Charles III's Coronation tomorrow! From solving the King's Mystery in Maths, writing letters to the King in Literacy; to creating a new Coronation logo in D&T - we have had an incredible day, dressed in red, white and blue!

Finally, a massive shout-out goes to our Kitchen Manager - Mrs Underwood, who created her very own Coronation Portrait that was displayed in our lunch hall. She definitely deserves a Golden Folder for her outstanding contribution. Gracie can be seen holding this in the picture gallery!

    The 'Design a Coronation Portrait' winners are;

    Joyce - 1SG

    Maxx - 5LH

This was a hard choice as there were lots of entries and the standard was very high. Well done everyone!

  • Glory on the Table!

    Published 05/05/23

After over 100 days or preparation, involving playing on a daily basis, the Titans of Smith's Wood Primary managed to snatch a well-deserved silver medal in the Solihull Table Tennis Championships, only narrowly missing out on a gold medal by 5 team points!

We are immensely proud of the dedication and sportsmanship shown by our junior athletes, showing a fantastic display of teamwork and perseverance at every opportunity.

At Smith's Wood, we provide a broad range of opportunities for children to represent the school and table tennis is a classic example of the plethora of activities we have available for all pupils.

Last night, pupils from across the school, came together, to party and celebrate for the Kings coronation!

They danced (to music from our resident DJ), they ate (copious amounts from the tuck shop) and they drank (cordial).

Celebrations continued late into the early evening with large amounts of merriment and frivolity!

Many thanks to everyone who worked hard to make the night a brilliant success!

  • Smith's Wood Readathon!

    Published 27/04/23

Last half term, at Smith’s Wood Primary, our pupils took part in a two week Readathon in order to raise money for books for children at Birmingham Children’s hospital. Pupils were asked to read whatever they enjoy most including magazines, newspapers and audiobooks.

We would like to celebrate our pupils who raised an incredible £1,670.05 for the hospital and say a huge thank you to all parents, carers, family and friends who sponsored the children. This will make a huge difference to the children in our local hospital and we couldn’t have done it without you all!

A special mention goes to Jack in Year 4 and Ava-Rose in Reception who raised an incredible £150 and £100 individually. Well done to everyone who got involved!
