A good archer is known not by their arrow, but by their aim! This week, Smith's Woods own junior Robin Hoods split the competition in twain at the North Solihull Archery Championship! Storming the fortified walls of Grace Academy, our noble kinspeople represented Smith's Wood with honour and duty.
Despite ferocious competition from rival archers, our brave warriors notched arrow after arrow, peppering targets in every direction to secure them a well-deserved first AND second place victory.
We are immensely proud of our junior athletes for constantly showing our school values in abundance, well done to both teams and everyone who completed!
Today we have celebrated our pupils of the term. These children have been nominated by their class teachers to receive an end of term prize. This is a prestigious award, as the pupil of the term nominations are for those children who have impressed their teachers repeatedly over the whole of the Autumn term. We would like to congratulate all of our pupil of the term winners and thank them for showing the school values in abundance this term. We also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

Yesterday, Year 1 visited the Butterfly Farm in Stratford-Upon-Avon! We saw a variety of beautifully coloured butterflies, some of which even landed on us. We learned about the amazing life cycle of a butterfly and saw some of the world's largest and most camouflaged caterpillars, giant silk moths and their cocoons. When we visited the casing, we could see a butterfly beginning to hatch from its pupa! We had a fantastic time strolling through the wonderful world of the tropical, rainforest environment, with beautiful flowers, different animals, splashing waterfalls and fish filled pools. The children had a fantastic time exploring, playing and learning about lots of different creatures and minibeasts!

The children really enjoyed the pantomime performance. Children in Nursery, Reception and Year one were searching for the Easter Bunny, and after meeting many other animals along the way, finally found him! There were lots of songs that they recognised and were able to join in with. There were a variety of costume changes and we even had our very own star guest ‘Mr. Wright!’ as a horse!
Our overall attendance this week was 93.8%
Children from EYFS and KS1 took part in an eggciting Easter bonnet parade today as they paraded around the school to a wondrous applause from KS2; children in KS2 also wowed us with their eggtravagently decorated eggs and they were proudly displayed in school for all to see. It was fantastic to see so many creative and eggcellent Easter creations and it looked as though the children enjoyed creating their masterpieces at home, I know it was very hard to pick a winner in each class.
Well done to all of our Easter competition winners!

Year 2 were transported to Florence Nightingale’s hospital for a day of exciting learning. We were amazed by the incredible array of nurses and doctors who arrived ready for hospital school. Pupils loved making their own Fanoos lantern, before conducting a hospital inspection and making their own medals to celebrate the incredible work of Florence Nightingale. We were impressed to hear the links that pupils made between our own school values and nursing values. This was a great opportunity for us to discuss the importance of the British Value of respect. A fantastic day was had by all!

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. Last night, Smith's Woods very own junior artists from, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, took on the House Art competition, the children had a fantastic time competing to produce a 'school values tree' that represents their house and our school values! Well done to the SPIDER HOUSE for coming 1st place!

The children in Year 1 have gone back in time learning about the past. We have travelled through time, learning about castles in the Middle Ages, making split-pin knights, and practising Medieval dancing; learning about Victorian toys and building a paper boat that we tested on water; learning about dinosaurs and creating playdough dinosaurs; learning about volcanoes and conducting an experiment; and learning about Egypt and creating our very own Tutankhamun mask to take home.
Finally, we learned about the history of chocolate and produced our very own chocolate bar wrapper! Then, we ate some chocolate as well as drank some chocolatey milk. What a wonderful time we had, and as quoted by Evie "I don't want this club to end!"
