  • Number Day!

    Published 03/02/23

WOW! What a wonder buzz around the school today.  Smith's Wood celebrated our very own number day, taking maths to whole new level!

Across the school, there were many different activities, sharing and discussing maths.

History of mathematicians in guided reading lessons, helping children to understand where numbers came from

    Shape poetry

Children writing their own stories, all about magic numbers

Measuring in Nursery when making biscuits, which were delicious!

Music and creating their own timetables song

    The list goes on.

It is days like this and comments from the children that make us more than a school!

  • Pupils of the Week

    Published 03/02/23

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

  • Reception Welcome Smith's Wood's First Ever Modern Olympic Games

    Published 03/02/23

Last night, Year 6 threw down the gauntlet of the Smith's Wood Olympic challenge for Reception. Rising to the occasion, the arena was filled by propelled javelins, intense bouncing, lightning quick running, stratospheric jumping and pinpoint bean-bag accuracy. A fantastic time was had by all classes and some amazing coaching from the year 6 leaders. Phenomenal displays of all house values were seen throughout the night with both year 6 and reception showing great levels of respect and friendship. ROT class managed to emerge victorious from the night with the largest showing of pupils from the class as well as some super-human levels of Olympic competition. • School Uniform Exchange

    Published 26/01/23

With the ever-increasing rise in the cost of living, Smith’s Wood Primary Academy is proud to provide our new School Uniform Exchange

The exchange will allow families to swap the uniform they have finished with, for good quality, second hand items, which will hopefully save you money and cut down on the costs of buying or replacing uniform, meaning the savings could go towards food costs, bills or even something nice for the children.

Uniform Exchange aims to not only save money, but also encourage people to recycle and donate old school uniform, rather than put it in the bin.  This is an opportunity to take advantage of a useful project, judgement free and without stigma.

The first exchange opportunity will be on Tuesday 7th February from 8:30am until 8:50am in the main school hall.  Access to the hall will be from the car park and through the adjoining doors to the car park.  Here you will have the opportunity to access uniform that has already been donated to school and replace your child’s old uniform clothing with uniform donated as part of the exchange project.

We look forward to welcoming you on the 7th February to take advantage of this project.

  • Local Food Bank Donations

    Published 26/01/23

Smith's Wood Primary Academy are always seeking to support the local community in as many ways as possible, following meetings with members of the community we understand that the local need to access the food bank in Smith’s Wood has increased.

In association with our community partners we have agreed to host a donation box at Smith’s Wood Primary Academy.  This is located in the main entrance to the school and is accessible to parents/carers and visitors to make a donation if they wish to do so.  Pupils in school will then support the transition of donated items to the food bank to allow supplies at the facility to be maintained during periods of high demand.

By supporting this initiative, we feel that not only are we assisting to remove the stigma about using the local food bank, but we are also helping children to understand the necessity to be part of a community that helps each other.

Should you wish to make a welcomed donation, the food box is available in the main entrance between 8:00am and 4:00pm daily.
