Reception had lots of fun yesterday during their Superhero Day. They took on lots of different challenges and enjoyed dressing up. The children made different superheroes out of playdough, wrote about people who are heroes to them, made up their own stories, played different team games and made super biscuits!

Ahoy me hearties! Year 2 was overrun on Tuesday with an invasion of unruly pirates. We had a wonderful day exploring treasure maps and directions, creating messages to send in a bottle, making our own hard tak biscuits and finally setting out on our own treasure hunt. We were impressed by the incredible range of creative costumes and the excellent attitudes displayed by all children. Our work on pirates has provided us an excellent opportunity to discuss our British Value of tolerance and how we treat those around us.

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

On Thursday 18th May our Year 6s took a spellbinding trip down to Warner Bros Studio Tour London - the making of Harry Potter. We immersed ourselves into all things magical: exploring the real sets, real props and real magic seen in the film series. Year 6 took part in a 'Script to Screen' workshop - looking at how an idea makes its way through the film making process to the screen. Pupils got time to explore the Forbidden Forest, the Hogwarts Express and even Diagon Alley!! Mischief definitely managed!!

Yesterday, North Solihull's finest Panathletes congregated on the hallowed ground of Coleshill Secondary School for the inaugural Panathlon Championship!
Our noble competitors were faced with a series of challenging games, which makes the Cube look like CocoMelon!
Smith's Wood's own A-Class Panathletes, battled fiercely though a test of mental fortitude, physical endurance and emotional valourousness, tackling such events as: Table Cricket, Indoor Curling, Skittles, Boccia and The ever-popular Parachute Drop.
Competition was immense and the displays of schools values were in abundance from our valiant contenders. We are immensely proud of our students who managed to secure a well-deserved second place trophy, certificate and silver medals!

On Tuesday 16th May, Year 4 had the fantastic opportunity to visit Cadbury World as part of our Ancient Aztec topic. They experienced a 4D ride along with learning about the history of chocolate as well as the history of Cadbury. As well as this, children had a design and technology talk where they learnt how chocolate is marketed and packaged compared to other competitors as well as the history of how advertising has developed over time. Following this, children explored how to manipulate chocolate including having their own taste test!
