Sun hats, suncream and water bottles at the ready! This Sports Day was a hot one!
Sports Day 2022 what a day to remember! For some of our children this was their first Sports Day ever at Smiths Wood Primary Academy. It was a delight to be able to see them enjoy themselves with the fun of sport.
The children participated and competed in several events including 100m sprint, long jump and, the childrens favourite, tug of war! We were extremely excited to be able to invite family and friends to watch and cheer on the children with a middle viewing area.
The children really enjoyed the day, cheering their friends on and being supportive towards each other. We are extremely proud of how all the children showed high levels of friendship, determination and perseverance.

This week saw the start of the first ever Smith’s Wood Aspire to Inspire programme. A programme designed to generate a plethora of interest in a whole host of careers, professions and higher educational avenues. This week, at our ‘career insights’ workshop, Year 6 pupils were able to ‘hot seat’ their way around our assembly hall to ask a variety of questions based upon volunteers skills, career pathway, professional relationships, qualifications, interests as a child and much, much more!
Smith’s Wood would like to thank everyone who was involved in the workshop for their time and commitment, Our aim is for pupils at Smith’s Wood Primary Academy to have an ever-growing knowledge of financial planning, work experience, understanding of further education and the employment opportunities that are available to them.

Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

Wind, rain, sunshine and not a duck in sight, must mean it's the cricket season for Smith's Wood!
Rounding out the season, Smith's Wood pupils combined devastating batting, precision bowling and cat-like reflexes in the field to drive their way to victory, finishing top of the group and guaranteeing themselves a shot at glory in the showpiece final.
In the face of fierce competition, Smith's Wood pupils responded with a flurry of wickets and a multitude of boundaries. Pupils were able to use their immeasurable skills and determination to firmly secure a well-deserved silver medal.
Last term, 2CP had such fantastic attendance that they were given the opportunity to visit Hoar Park Farm. Pupils had the chance to feed and hold several animals including, rabbits, cows, pigs, guinea pigs, stick insects and sheep. Well done to all of 2CP for their amazing attendance.

We have had a fantastic variety of fun filled lessons and activities this week to help us celebrate our Queen's Platinum Jubilee. From solving the Queen's Mystery in Maths, writing the Queen's biography in Literacy; to making biscuits for the Street Party in D&T - we have had an incredible week!
Our Friday has been just as fabulous; dressed in red, white and blue, and a visit to each Year Group's stall at our Jubilee Fete - we had lots of fun! We are delighted to have added a royal theme to our learning this week and to take part in completing our '70 Things for 70 Years' theme in our School.
The 'Design a Coronation Portrait' winners are;
Olly - 3LB
Liam - RHP
This was a hard choice as there were lots of entries and the standard was very high. Well done everyone!

YR5 Girls were transported to the wonderful world of Disney, most notably Pride Rock, for some Lion King themed football coaching with the Aston Villa professional footballer Nat Haigh.
Smith's Wood playing field was transformed into an African savannah where giraffes, elephants and even lions roamed free!
Our very own Smith's Wood lionesses bravely attempted to escape an elephant graveyard, navigate a perilous jungle and outwit a dangerous clan of hyenas whilst protecting their own Zazu!
An excellent array of skills were on display in earnest. Well done to the Year 5 girls for completing the numerous complex levels and showing an abundance of both determination and resilience.
