YR5 Girls were transported to the wonderful world of Disney, most notably Pride Rock, for some Lion King themed football coaching with the Aston Villa professional footballer Nat Haigh.
Smith's Wood playing field was transformed into an African savannah where giraffes, elephants and even lions roamed free!
Our very own Smith's Wood lionesses bravely attempted to escape an elephant graveyard, navigate a perilous jungle and outwit a dangerous clan of hyenas whilst protecting their own Zazu!
An excellent array of skills were on display in earnest. Well done to the Year 5 girls for completing the numerous complex levels and showing an abundance of both determination and resilience.

Here in Year 2, Smith's Wood pupils celebrated their very own Pirate themed day, What a brilliant day we had! I’m sure you agree, in the photos there arrrrrrrrrr lots of amazing costumes. The scallywag pirates in Year 2 enjoyed a range of exciting learning opportunities including giving directions in Maths, writing messages in a bottle in Literacy, making hardtack biscuits, playing pirate games all before completing a treasure hunt.

Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

On Friday 13th May - there was nothing unlucky in year 6, as we headed to Kingsbury Water Park. This was a reward trip for pupils who had completed the target amount of SATs Bootcamp sessions; many of whom had put in 8 extra hours across the previous two weeks!
Pupils enjoyed a picnic lunch and an afternoon of being themselves playing on the play area and participating in a multitude of sports in the beautiful countryside setting. We are very proud of the extra effort shown by these pupils and staff!

This week, Year 5 went on a trip to Dovedale which was linked to our raging rivers topic. Throughout the day, they explored the River Dove and experienced the well-known stepping stones. Before their lunch break, they had the chance to experience caving! All the Year 5 team were impressed with the behaviour and their wiliness to participate in the diverse activities. What a day to remember!!
