  • Year 5 Take a Trip to Dovedale

    Published 20/05/22

This week, Year 5 went on a trip to Dovedale which was linked to our raging rivers topic. Throughout the day, they explored the River Dove and experienced the well-known stepping stones. Before their lunch break, they had the chance to experience caving! All the Year 5 team were impressed with the behaviour and their wiliness to participate in the diverse activities. What a day to remember!!

They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

In February, Smith's Wood pupils were asked to enter a competition celebrating the Commonwealth Games and under the theme of 'Bringing People Together', organised by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Ken Meeson. Pupils across all year groups, from Year 1 to Year 6, either wrote a story or a poem linking to the theme. All of our entries are being displayed in The Core Theatre in July 2022 ahead of the Commonwealth Games. To celebrate a commemorative certificate and badge were awarded to several hard working pupils. Well done to everyone who entered!

  • Do the Commonwealth Conga!

    Published 29/04/22

The children were set a challenge by Perry the Bull to complete a certain amount of laps around the playground. Each year group aimed for 2 laps around our KS2 MUGA whilst the popular 'Black Lace - Do the Conga' song was on repeat for all year groups. Some children were chosen as the baton bearer for the event as they showed the Solihull Sports Games values of determination, honesty, teamwork, self-belief, passion and respect. We all had so much fun!

  • Year 3 Take a Trip to Blakesley Hall

    Published 29/04/22

This week, Year 3 went on a trip to Blakesley Hall to kickstart their new topic of the Tudors! Throughout the morning, they had a tour of the Tudor house where Richard and Elizabeth Smallbroke used to live and learnt all about their lives; some children even dressed up as them and their servants! After a lunch break, they then experienced some fun Tudor activities which included writing with quill and ink, taking brass rubbings of famous historical figures and looking at Tudor artefacts. The day was all about learning the difference in the lives of rich and poor Tudors and the children had a brilliant day!

  • End of Term Newsletter

    Published 08/04/22

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Please find our school newsletter, for the 2nd half of the Spring term. The newsletter for this half term has been written by pupils in the school, who attended the ‘Newspaper Club’. They worked on the publication of the newsletter for 12 weeks and have tied all of their research and ideas into this final version for you. We hope you agree that they have done a fantastic job of sharing many key events which have taken place this half term.

It has been another busy, yet challenging half term at Smith’s Wood, with many pupils and staff continuing to be struck by the never ending Covid pandemic. However, we have all kept in good spirits and the school has ensured that your child has continued to receive their education from our team of dedicated staff. As always, we would like to thank parents and carers for the support they have continued to show the school over the term.

We hope that you all are looking forward to a lovely 2 week break over the Easter holidays and you get chance to spend some quality time with your family and friends, eating lots of chocolate, hopefully in some sunshine.

School breaks up today and reopens on Monday 25th April for all pupils. The school office will close at 3.45pm on Friday 8th April and reopen at 8.00am on Monday 25th. We look forward to seeing all pupils , back in school at 8.45am, on Monday 25th April.

     Miss D Givens

    Principal
