  • Year 6 are Out of this World

    Published 12/01/22

Year 6 blasted off to the National Space Centre in Leicester. They got the opportunity to take part in a great rocket challenge workshop, where children competed in groups to create a rocket that could land on the moon! The children also went into the planetarium to watch a short film called 'Astronaut' - a surreal experience for some! Then finished the day exploring the rocket tower. Everyone had a great day, embedding the learning about space from the classroom.

Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

  • The Not-so Vile Victorians

    Published 06/01/22

Whilst the Victorian's may have believed in the adage, 'Children should be seen but not heard', here at Smith's Wood, Year 6 celebrated the start of our new topic with a fun and exciting 'Victorian Day'! Playing parlour games, taking part in a Peaky Blinders experience and acting out a play with the legendary playwright Oscar Wilde were just some of the excellent activities pupils completed. Finishing off by creating some charcoal art and making a classic Victorian toy, we can definitely say 'we were amused!'

  • The Rotten Romans of Year 3

    Published 05/01/22

Today, Year 3 took part in a whole day of Roman activities! From learning all about Roman numerals in Maths, to writing their name using the Latin alphabet, the children experienced what life would have been like for a Roman child. During the afternoon, they learnt that the Romans were the first people to introduce money to Britain, and therefore made their own Roman coins with pictures of Caesar's face and even wrote the date in Roman numerals they learnt before.
