  • Nursery Visit Ash End Farm

    Published 13/07/22

This week, Nursery children enjoyed a fun filled day at Ash End Farm which included lots of hands on experiences including bottle feeding a baby lamb, feeding goats and sheep and also holding a newly hatched chick before rummaging in the chicken coops to select their very own  egg. In addition to this they got to see horses, cows, donkeys, reptiles and birds of prey to mention a few!

They even got to see piglets born only 4 hours earlier.

Amazingly, Nursery even had time for a picnic together, time to explore the farm and play on the parks all before returning to school full of smiles!

  • Reception Trip to Hatton Country World!

    Published 13/07/22

Last week, Reception children had an amazing day at Hatton Country World! The weather was kind to us and we were able to explore and learn lots about the animals they have there.

We had a tractor ride adventure around the farm, discovering some fun facts about the animals - the donkey that was featured in the Nativity films (bubbles) lives there! The children also had some exploring time looking at their selection of snakes, lizards spiders and even a terrapin called Terry! We were able to feed the big goats, stroke the younger goats, gold guinea pigs and stroke a lovely bearded dragon called Bobby. The children also enjoyed a quick play in the soft play area and a ride on the tall dragon sack slide!

Overall, we loved our Reception trip!

  • Just Around the Riverbend with Year 5

    Published 08/07/22

Last week, Year 5 experienced a challenging trip, canoeing down the River Severn, beginning in Arley and ending in Bewdley. Sophie Gilson, a Year 5 student, stated that her canoe went flying over rocks, which was very dramatic indeed. The resilient pupils of Year 5 persevered to flow past rapids, avoid any disasters and have a thrilling time. ‘I enjoyed it very much and would definitely do it again!’ Reece Mills concluded. To top off an exhilarating day, the students all enjoyed a refreshing ice-cream!

A special thank you to Alessandra from 5ES for her amazing account or the trip!

This week, Year 2 had a truly magical visit to the seaside, where we enjoyed an exciting day of fun with sandcastle building, paddling in the sea, enjoying ice creams and even chasing away seagulls. We made memories that will last for years to come. The sandy clothes and shoes were evidence of just how much we enjoyed ourselves. As a Year 2 team we are very proud of how well all the pupils behaved, it was a pleasure to take them on this special trip. I can confidently say that Year 2 really do like to be beside the seaside!

    Published 30/06/22

Recently, Smith's Wood Primary Academy undertook an external assessment visit from the Association for Character Education to make a judgement on our status as a school of Character.  Pleasingly, we were awarded an increased level of Kitemark to Kitemark + which shows our progress since first receiving the accolade in 2017.  Assessors reported that this award clearly recognises the high quality of learning, mutually respectful relationships and values-driven personal development programme, which are prevalent in the school’s provision.  They also reported that teachers at Smith’s Wood Academy are confident and competent moral educators, as well as teachers of the curriculum.  Congratulations to all pupils, staff, parents/carers and Governors at Smith's Wood Primary Academy for this unbelievable achievement.
