  • The Captain Tom 100 Challenge at Smith's Wood

    Published 30/04/21

Today, Smiths Wood Primary Academy participated in the Captain Tom 100 challenge! His simple message of hope – “Tomorrow will be a good day” –inspired millions around the world and brought hope and joy to so many. The whole school, from Nursery to Year 6, took part in completing 100 laps of the school MUGA. We skipped, hopped, ran and walked our way around the MUGA in support of Captain Tom's achievements! Some of us even balanced cones on our heads and passed rugby balls to each other whilst doing so! In a year where our school has been learning apart, the Captain Tom 100 challenge offered a fun way to come together and celebrate his life!

  • Welcome Back

    Published 23/04/21

Thank you to all pupils, parents and staff or making the first week back, after the Easter holidays, a very successful one.

Not only has the sun been shining for a lot of the week, but it has been so good to see all our pupils, back in their classrooms, learning with their teachers and friends. The staggered start and finish times continue to be in place and this has meant that there is a swift and controlled way for our pupils to come to school.

Could we please ask that any parents, who are using the parking spaces outside the doctor’s surgery, pay careful attention to pedestrians and pupils, who may be crossing the road to get into school. When reversing out of these spaces, please take care and be mindful of the large volume of people walking to and from school.

Please take a look at our gallery, which gives a snapshot of some of the exciting learning which our pupils have taken part in next week. We have had a fantastic week of learning and look forward to continuing this journey as we move into the rest of the summer term.

  • Solihull Council COVID-19 Support

    Published 24/03/21

    Dear parents & carers,

Please find details below which summarises some additional support available from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council during this difficult time.

If you’re asked to self-isolate, it’s really important that you do so for the full ten days.

Solihull Council understands that this can be difficult and has local teams who can arrange help and support.

This could be anything from financial help to shopping vouchers and priority delivery slots to fuel top ups. Even help with dog walking!

If you’re experiencing financial hardship we can help with white goods like fridge replacements too.

We can also provide emotional support and have people on hand for a friendly chat if you’re struggling with self-isolation.

As lockdown eases over the coming months it’s going to be even more important to self-isolate when asked to. It’s not easy, but by self-isolating you’ll be helping everyone to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

So please – if you need help, just call 0121 704 6793 or visit the council website: https://www.solihull.gov.uk/COVID-19/here2help

And if you need help with something we don’t currently provide, please let us know at contacttracing@solihull.gov.uk and we’ll see what we can do to increase our support.

It has been an action-packed week here at Smith’s Wood! Lessons were themed around books and our love of reading with pupils at home taking part in fun quizzes with a ‘fetch’ twist. Year 4 have once again been a beacon of inspiration with children taking on the role of a Viking crossing a perilous and treacherous sea to find new land.
