Today we have celebrated our pupils of the term. These children have been nominated by their class teachers to receive an end of term prize. This is a prestigious award, as the pupil of the term nominations are for those children who have impressed their teachers repeatedly over the whole of the Autumn term. We would like to congratulate all of our pupil of the term winners and thank them for showing the school values in abundance this term. We also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. A lucky dip, of all children who are eligible takes place, and one pupil walks away with £5 to spend on whatever they want, Standards and presentation of a child’s book, chosen at random, are also reviewed and celebrated with the school and the child, whose book has been chosen, has the chance to win a dip out of the basket of goodies, as long as they have used their best handwriting every day, completed their feed forward marking and taken care in the presentation of their date and learning objective. We are extremely proud of all of the efforts of our pupils and the Friday Achievement assembly recognises this pride.

Please find the Autumn Term Newspaper, which has been produced by our school pupil journalist team, giving you an overview of events which have happened at Smith’s Wood Primary Academy over the term.
We would like to thank you for all of your support during this term and we hope you enjoy the 2 week holiday with your family and friends. The school office will close at 3.30pm tomorrow (20th December) and reopen on Monday 8th January 2024 at 8.00am.
Have a great Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 8th January, when school reopens for all pupils
Last week our festive season began here at Smith's Wood, with our very own version of Christmas Dinner. Children enjoyed a special lunch and donned some very festive outfits to celebrate.
Christmas music and jumpers filled the hall as children helped to raise money for Save the Children, a very festive time for all and a fantastic cause to support!

Each week, during our Friday Achievement assembly, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils are recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons and are nominated by their class teacher. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
During the assembly, we also celebrate children who have 100% attendance for the week and have been in school every day on time. Last night, 4 of the most daring teams from year 6 faced the fearsome Cube challenge! Our noble contestants demonstrated skill, nerve and determination, completing a series of deceptively simple tasks while confined to The Cube and in the glare of the spotlight. Each team battled bravely to give their house a chance to claim glory. One house in particular made Smith's Wood history by being the first house ever to complete the Cube! Well done to Bat house and all teams that participated!

On Wednesday 13th December, the Year 4, 5 & 6 Choir went to visit the residents at St Giles Nursing Home. The children have been working hard in the after-school club to learn a range of songs that they could perform to the residents. They sang a range of festive tunes to help get everyone into the Christmas spirit and performed fantastically, displaying all our school values. The residents loved the children's performance and were very thankful for our visit.

On Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th December, pupils from Year 4 visited Staffordshire Regiment Museum. Pupils got to explore a trench system, handle real weapons from both wars and wear real uniform. As well as all this, pupils got to see how life existed in WW2 by visiting shelters and learning about rationing. On top of this exciting opportunity, pupils got to see tanks that were used in other wars outside of WW1 and WW2.

What an incredible day Year 2 had at the British Motor Museum! From fast cars and famous cars from films all the way through to historical buses and an example of the first car ever built, we were truly blown away by the spectacular array of transport. Thank you to the brilliant learning team at the British Motor Museum who ensured we had such a memorable day. We had an exciting tour jam packed with facts and a workshop where we built and tested our own cars. Year 2 were completely engrossed in the day and we were impressed by both their behaviour and how well they demonstrated our school values. This was a day to remember!
