On Tuesday 1^st March, Mrs Evans (Outdoor Education Lead) and Mr Hobbis escorted four green fingered enthusiasts to Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre to participate in a tree planting celebration to mark the Queen's Jubilee year.  Pupils at Smiths' Wood Primary Academy participate in outdoor education regularly at school with outstanding enthusiasm, and this day was no different.  Planting a variety of trees which will aid the landscape in North Solihull pupils took part in the whole process including the spade work!  Congratulations to all pupils for making a valid contribution to the climate but also the local community and as always representing school so well.

Today, the children and adults of Smith's Wood Primary celebrated World Book Day by dressing as Mr Men or Little Miss characters, to celebrate 50 years of Roger Hargreaves' first book! Throughout the day, all year groups had lessons linked to the Mr Men or Little Miss stories, from correcting Mr Wrong's mistakes in Maths, to creating their own characters and stories in Literacy, all children had a morning filled with Mr Men fun!

During the afternoon, all lessons were linked to the books too, including Year 1's Science experiment from Little Miss Inventor, Year 2 creating medicines for Mr Bump's bruises and Year 3 exploring the rainforest with Mr Adventure. In addition to this, all year groups took part in a Mr Men treasure hunt linked to their orienteering skills, and had to find certain characters and answer questions based on the books! Children were all dressed up and an award for 'Best Dressed' was given to someone from each year group, with the prize of the brand-new Mr Men book! It has been an amazing day for all involved!

Yesterday, Year 1 enjoyed a fabulous space filled day. Every activity complemented a tick off their Space Academy list, from making shape rocket nets in maths, writing instructions to build a rocket in phonics and then building a rocket in the afternoon. Children took part in a space themed assault course and designed their own space suit for their missions. Everyone enjoyed the day, fully dressed in colourful costumes and were awarded with their space camp certificates for completing their challenges! It was truly out of this world! ✨

Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.
