Another Thursday night at Smith's Wood, another House Competition.  Mr Hobbis started the night with one question for Year 5 pupils - "Can you beat the cube?"  The Bat House tried valiantly and ultimately walked away with 40 house points after deciding to walk away in round four of eight.  The Spider House provided the most intense, dramatical moment of the year so far, where with only one life remaining completed 'bounce' to walk away with 50 house points. Hulk House were flying with ten lives after four rounds only to falter at the fifth where one challenge evaporated all ten lives meaning they left with nothing but an unreal learning opportunity.  Super house will return in cliff hanger fashion as they sit on 7 lives remaining and three challenges to complete.  The Question remains... Can they beat the cube?

Our overall attendance last week was 89.4%

This Wednesday, Year 3 visited 'All Things Wild' to walk amongst the dinosaurs! We searched through sand for fossils, had a trip on the dino train and walked around the dinosaur field. During our trip, we saw a life size T-Rex and Triceratops and learnt all about the teeth of carnivores and herbivores. The children (and adults!) had a great time and it was amazing to go on such a fun trip!

Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

This week, the Year 5 children took part in a Bikeability course. Bikeability is a national cycle training programme supported and funded by the Department for Transport. The course builds the skills and confidence of the children who can already ride, receiving training from qualified and professional instructors. The first day involved an assessment day of riding around the school playground, correcting any bike problems and adjusting the children ready for the road. The following days involved a start and finish an on-road journeys, recognising typical hazards and the rules to follow when riding by/on the road.
