  • Outdoor Learning at Smith's Wood

    Published 21/05/21

It has been another fantastic week here at Smiths Wood. The rain didn't hold us back as this week, we celebrated National Outdoor Classroom Day across each year group in the school. Every class bubble had the opportunity to take one of their lessons outside. Year 3 took their data handling in Maths to the pond area where they counted which animals and insects could be found. Building on their Maths skills, year 4 used coordinates to move around the playground, and also went outside during Literacy to get inspiration for a setting description. Year 6 linked Geography to Art and created a map of Smiths Wood using materials from their outdoor surrounding areas. As well as this, KS1 joined in the fun! Year 1 made bird's nests through an outdoor Design & Technology lesson during their forest school session, whilst year 2 mind mapped adjectives surrounding Florence Nightingale using their bodies as an outline.

  • Year Group Bubbles at Smith's Wood

    Published 11/05/21

This week we have made the transition period back to year group bubbles.  Everything is running smoothly, with children retuning to ability-based learning.  Children have seamlessly adapted to yet another change to their year, demonstrating our pupils extremely high levels of resilience and determination.  We are so pleased to see their friendships reignited and children responsibly mixing within their respective year group bubbles, respecting each other's space.

We would like to thank you for your continued support during this time, for more pictures from our exciting week of learning, please see our gallery

  • The Captain Tom 100 Challenge at Smith's Wood

    Published 30/04/21

Today, Smiths Wood Primary Academy participated in the Captain Tom 100 challenge! His simple message of hope – “Tomorrow will be a good day” –inspired millions around the world and brought hope and joy to so many. The whole school, from Nursery to Year 6, took part in completing 100 laps of the school MUGA. We skipped, hopped, ran and walked our way around the MUGA in support of Captain Tom's achievements! Some of us even balanced cones on our heads and passed rugby balls to each other whilst doing so! In a year where our school has been learning apart, the Captain Tom 100 challenge offered a fun way to come together and celebrate his life!

  • Welcome Back

    Published 23/04/21

Thank you to all pupils, parents and staff or making the first week back, after the Easter holidays, a very successful one.

Not only has the sun been shining for a lot of the week, but it has been so good to see all our pupils, back in their classrooms, learning with their teachers and friends. The staggered start and finish times continue to be in place and this has meant that there is a swift and controlled way for our pupils to come to school.

Could we please ask that any parents, who are using the parking spaces outside the doctor’s surgery, pay careful attention to pedestrians and pupils, who may be crossing the road to get into school. When reversing out of these spaces, please take care and be mindful of the large volume of people walking to and from school.

Please take a look at our gallery, which gives a snapshot of some of the exciting learning which our pupils have taken part in next week. We have had a fantastic week of learning and look forward to continuing this journey as we move into the rest of the summer term.
