Excitement filled the air at Smith’s Wood Primary Academy this week as pupils took part in a highly anticipated Maths House Competition, bringing together teamwork, skill, and a shared enthusiasm for numbers.
The event saw four houses—Bat, Hulk, Super, and Spider—compete in a series of challenging and engaging mathematical activities. From quick-fire arithmetic rounds to problem-solving challenges, pupils were pushed to demonstrate not only their numerical ability but also their collaboration and perseverance.
Throughout the competition, students displayed outstanding respect and determination, supporting their teammates and showing great sportsmanship towards their opponents. Teachers praised the participants for their positive attitudes, noting that the event was as much about character-building as it was about mathematical achievement.
The competition remained incredibly close from start to finish, with each house taking the lead at different stages. In an intense final scoring round, Super House emerged victorious, winning by a narrow margin of just 11 points—a testament to how competitive the event was.
A member of staff commented, “We are incredibly proud of all the pupils. Their enthusiasm, resilience, and respect for one another truly reflected our school values. It was wonderful to see everyone so engaged in mathematics.”
While Super House celebrated their well-earned win, all four houses—Bat, Hulk, Super, and Spider—left the event with a sense of accomplishment and pride. The competition not only highlighted the students’ mathematical talents but also reinforced the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and mutual respect.
Plans are already underway for the next house competition, with pupils eagerly looking forward to another opportunity to showcase their skills.
