More than a school

Smith’s Wood Vertu Schools Cup

On Sunday, Smith’s Wood’s bravest warriors graced the hallowed turf of Fortress St Andrews for the finals day of the Vertu Schools Cup. Our boys fought like gladiators against some of the toughest competition from all around the region. Our impregnable defence was unbeaten throughout the day with our lads showing perseverance and determination far above their years. Despite their best efforts and a monumentous winning streak, our team faced their toughest challenge in the final match. Spurred on by the thunderous applause and cheer of the crowd including staff, family members and friends, Smith’s Wood managed to hold off the competition all the way to the penalty stage, where sadly, in typical English football fashion, they succumbed to the dreaded penalty shootout, finishing with a well-deserved 2nd place medal.  We are immensely proud of everything our boys achieved and the grace and dignity they showed in the face of defeat.

Thank you to everyone who came to support and cheer on the team.
