More than a school

Holdenby House

Last week, Year 4 visited Holdenby House in Northampton for a day in the life of an evacuee child. Every child dressed up as an evacuee with their gas mask box and identity card attached

Throughout the day, the children got to experience rationing and made Christmas mince pies as well as a 'make do and mend' session where we made rag rugs and designed Christmas decorations out of newspaper. As well as this, the children also learnt how to keep safe during WW2 by listening to the air raid siren and knowing where to go. All children were able to experience what it was like to hide in an Anderson shelter and it was truly a fantastic day!
