  • Pupil of the Week

    Published 18/02/22

Each week, we celebrate our ‘Pupils of the Week’ from each year group. Pupils can be recognised for this weekly award for a variety of reasons. They may have excelled in a particular subject through the week; may have shown one, or more, of the school values in abundance, or they may have impressed their teacher, or other staff members with a huge amount of effort. Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

  • Disney Day Extravaganza!

    Published 17/02/22

On Tuesday 15th February, our school was flooded with a range of Disney stars! Pupils were thrilled to be immersed in their own trip to Disneyland. From reading a timetable, to studying a theme park map before writing instructions to participate in a character parade. In the afternoon, all children were beaming as they dazzled with a range of poses and waves in our character parade. The day finished with a themed afternoon tea – just like the treats you could enjoy at Disney. We had an incredible day, well done Year 2!

  • Safer Internet Day 2022

    Published 11/02/22

This week, on Tuesday, pupils at Smith's Wood celebrated Safer Internet Day. The theme this year was healthy relationships online, during the day children discussed which games/app they use online, with friends, and how they interact with others. From this, children across the school created data reflecting the games/apps they engage with. Work from the morning sessions was as a discussion point to help children understand if the games/app they commonly used were suitable for their age. Children were highly engaged and surprised when learning about the correct ESRB ratings for apps/games that they use on a regular basis.

It was wonderful to see how children around the school were able to create help/advice for others about how to manage positive, healthy relationships online. Several great ideas were shown around the school and pupils were enthusiastic and mature when discussing ways to resolve conflict online.

For more information and guides regarding app/game use, as well as several helpful tips for parents/carers, please see the National Online Safety website here

For information about age ratings in games/apps, please see the ESRB website here
