  • Do the Commonwealth Conga!

    Published 29/04/22

The children were set a challenge by Perry the Bull to complete a certain amount of laps around the playground. Each year group aimed for 2 laps around our KS2 MUGA whilst the popular 'Black Lace - Do the Conga' song was on repeat for all year groups. Some children were chosen as the baton bearer for the event as they showed the Solihull Sports Games values of determination, honesty, teamwork, self-belief, passion and respect. We all had so much fun!

Whatever they are nominated for, they are recognised in the whole school achievement assembly, receive a certificate to take home and get to wear one of our prestigious black and gold t-shirts.

  • Year 3 Take a Trip to Blakesley Hall

    Published 29/04/22

This week, Year 3 went on a trip to Blakesley Hall to kickstart their new topic of the Tudors! Throughout the morning, they had a tour of the Tudor house where Richard and Elizabeth Smallbroke used to live and learnt all about their lives; some children even dressed up as them and their servants! After a lunch break, they then experienced some fun Tudor activities which included writing with quill and ink, taking brass rubbings of famous historical figures and looking at Tudor artefacts. The day was all about learning the difference in the lives of rich and poor Tudors and the children had a brilliant day!

  • End of Term Newsletter

    Published 08/04/22

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Please find our school newsletter, for the 2nd half of the Spring term. The newsletter for this half term has been written by pupils in the school, who attended the ‘Newspaper Club’. They worked on the publication of the newsletter for 12 weeks and have tied all of their research and ideas into this final version for you. We hope you agree that they have done a fantastic job of sharing many key events which have taken place this half term.

It has been another busy, yet challenging half term at Smith’s Wood, with many pupils and staff continuing to be struck by the never ending Covid pandemic. However, we have all kept in good spirits and the school has ensured that your child has continued to receive their education from our team of dedicated staff. As always, we would like to thank parents and carers for the support they have continued to show the school over the term.

We hope that you all are looking forward to a lovely 2 week break over the Easter holidays and you get chance to spend some quality time with your family and friends, eating lots of chocolate, hopefully in some sunshine.

School breaks up today and reopens on Monday 25th April for all pupils. The school office will close at 3.45pm on Friday 8th April and reopen at 8.00am on Monday 25th. We look forward to seeing all pupils , back in school at 8.45am, on Monday 25th April.

  • Eggciting Easter Events at Smith's Wood

    Published 08/04/22

Children from EYFS and KS1 took part in an eggciting Easter bonnet parade today as they paraded around the school to a wonderous applause from KS2; children in KS2 also wowed us with their eggtravagently decorated eggs and they were proudly displayed in school for all to see.  It was fantastic to see so many creative and eggcellent Easter creations and it looked as though the children enjoyed creating their masterpieces at home, I know it was very hard to pick a winner in each class.

We learned about the amazing life cycle of a butterfly and saw some of the world's largest and most camouflaged caterpillars, giant silk moths and their cocoons. When we visited the casing, we could see a butterfly beginning to hatch from its pupa! We had a fantastic time strolling through the wonderful world of the tropical, rainforest environment, with beautiful flowers, different animals, splashing waterfalls and fish filled pools. The children had a fantastic time exploring, playing and learning about lots of different creatures and minibeasts!

  • Tremendous Trip to Twycross Zoo

    Published 06/04/22

On Friday, the children visited Twycross Zoo and saw a variety of animals. We listened to how they look after the animals in their care and learnt new facts, did you know that giraffes markings get darker and that how they know how old they are? The children enjoyed seeing several species of monkey, a rhino, giraffes, meerkats, and we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a tiger. It was a fantastic day and the children enjoyed exploring the zoo.
