  • School Uniform Exchange

    Published 26/01/23

With the ever-increasing rise in the cost of living, Smith’s Wood Primary Academy is proud to provide our new School Uniform Exchange

The exchange will allow families to swap the uniform they have finished with, for good quality, second hand items, which will hopefully save you money and cut down on the costs of buying or replacing uniform, meaning the savings could go towards food costs, bills or even something nice for the children.

Uniform Exchange aims to not only save money, but also encourage people to recycle and donate old school uniform, rather than put it in the bin.  This is an opportunity to take advantage of a useful project, judgement free and without stigma.

The first exchange opportunity will be on Tuesday 7th February from 8:30am until 8:50am in the main school hall.  Access to the hall will be from the car park and through the adjoining doors to the car park.  Here you will have the opportunity to access uniform that has already been donated to school and replace your child’s old uniform clothing with uniform donated as part of the exchange project.

We look forward to welcoming you on the 7th February to take advantage of this project.

  • Local Food Bank Donations

    Published 26/01/23

Smith's Wood Primary Academy are always seeking to support the local community in as many ways as possible, following meetings with members of the community we understand that the local need to access the food bank in Smith’s Wood has increased.

In association with our community partners we have agreed to host a donation box at Smith’s Wood Primary Academy.  This is located in the main entrance to the school and is accessible to parents/carers and visitors to make a donation if they wish to do so.  Pupils in school will then support the transition of donated items to the food bank to allow supplies at the facility to be maintained during periods of high demand.

By supporting this initiative, we feel that not only are we assisting to remove the stigma about using the local food bank, but we are also helping children to understand the necessity to be part of a community that helps each other.

Should you wish to make a welcomed donation, the food box is available in the main entrance between 8:00am and 4:00pm daily.

  • 30 hour Nursery Consultation

    Published 19/01/23

At Smith’s Wood Primary Academy, we are proud of the outstanding nursery provision we offer our youngest pupils. Currently, we offer the universal entitlement of 15 hours free education for all nursery aged children. Recently, we have become aware that there may be the demand for this to be extended to offer 30 hours free for those that are eligible, namely working parents.

The purpose of this message is to explore whether this is something we can offer for September 2023 and if any of our current parents/carers, who have children (born between 01.09.19 – 31.08.20) would consider our nursery if we can provide the free funded 30 hours.

At this stage, this is a consultation to see whether there would be enough eligible applicants to make a 30 hour nursery viable. To be eligible for the 30 hours free nursery education, the household where the child resides must have both parents working or one parent working in lone parent families. Additionally, this is defined as earning the equivalent of 16 hours per week on national minimum wage, but less than £100,000 per year. To check your eligibility and to find out more details please visit Apply for 30 hours free childcare - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

To enable working parents to take up the offer of free funded 30 hours, we would like to propose that the nursery day would be 9am – 3pm. This would include lunch which would either be an additional cost or children attend with a packed lunch.

The consultation period will last for 3 weeks, if you are eligible and interested in having a 30 hour place, please can you email nurseryapplications@smithswoodpri.solihull.sch.uk expressing your interest and to request an application form by 8th February 2023. Equally, we are still accepting application forms for 15 hours if this is something you have not applied for already.

If you have any questions regarding our nursery and this consultation, please do not hesitate to contact myself via the school office.
